Ted Failon's wife 'fighting for her life'

The wife of ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon is in critical condition after being shot in the head.

A police report quoted Failon as saying his wife, Trinidad, was shot in their home in Tierra Pura while Failon was in ABS-CBN.

Authorities are now trying to determine whether the shooting was an attempted homicide or a suicide attempt.

As of posting, Failon and the persons who were inside the house at the time of the incident had already taken a paraffin test.

A reenactment of the incidents inside the Failon residence was also done for the police.

In a statement, Failon said he didn't finish his program on dzMM this morning after he talked to his wife on the telephone.

Failon said he immediately went home and found the door to their bathroom locked.

When they finally opened the door, he found his wife bloodied and then rushed her to the hospital.

"Hindi ko na tinapos ang aking programa sa dzMM kaninang umaga matapos kong makausap ang aking asawa sa telepono. Kaya umuwi ako kaagad at natagpuan kong nakakandado ang pinto ng banyo,” he said. “Pinabuksan ko ang pinto at natagpuan ko ang aking asawa na duguan kung kaya't itinakbo ko siya kaagad sa ospital."

Police Superintendent Frank Mabanag, chief of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said the couple had an argument Tuesday night after which Trinidad left the house with a sibling and returned only on Wednesday when Failon was at ABS-CBN.

Mabanag said Trinidad apparently left a suicide note which is now in the possession of the police.

The alleged suicide note said:

"Papa, Im so so sorry gustong gusto ko pong magsabi sa yo ng totoo, pero hindi ko po alam kung papaano ko uumpisahan.

"Sobrang takot na takot po ako. Umalis po muna ako. Kasi hindi ko po kayang at nahihiya po ako sayo humarap.

"Sana po mapawad mo ako papa. Sorry, sorry Papa

Mama"

Mabanag lamented that the household helpers of Failon cleaned the bathroom where Trinidad was found and that Failon returned the gun to the bedroom instead of leaving the scene for the police to examine.

These should not have been done, Mabanag said.

Initial reports said the couple had an argument in Failon's car on Wednesday, but this was denied by Mabanag.

As of posting, the hospital refused to give details on the condition of the broadcaster’s wife.

Dr. Salvador Corpuz, New Era Medical Director, said that Failon gave strict orders not to divulge any information about the incident.

In a statement, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. appealed to the public to respect the privacy of Failon’s family.

"We appeal to everyone to please respect the privacy of Ted Failon and his family," ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio said. "His wife is fighting for her life."

Mabanag said they are now checking every angle that might have led to the incident.

Get Paid by Hour in oDesk

The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk
What is oDesk?

oDesk is a freelance site where your services can get paid by the hour or by fixed-price bids. A client (termed as buyer) get to post their job so that they can get a freelancer (termed as provider) to do that particular job. These are small contracted work where the client can handpick his freelancers or he can wait for active freelancers to apply to his job. oDesk offers jobs from data entry to writing as well as their initial job offerings in programming, graphics and web design jobs.

Create a Profile

To begin with, one has to create a profile. That profile is a lot similar to a resume. A portfolio is also very helpful in proving one’s capability to finish a job. It took me a day to update my profile but once that it is done; I was appealing enough for some interested clients. I wrote some tips for the oDesk blog to help several oDesk freelancers on polishing their profiles to make their edge for the first job.

Measuring One’s Skills

Don’t forget the tests too! oDesk offers free tests that measure the skills capabilities. Programmers can get tests related to the programming skills; writers can also get tests that are related to writing. These tests are important, especially to those who do not have any oDesk work history and feedback to back up their profile. The oDesk Readiness Test (ORT) is a new test about the oDesk policies and procedures to make sure that freelancers are ready to apply and accept jobs in the marketplace (I have not encountered this test in the first place).

How Job Progress is Monitored

Hourly jobs are monitored using special software called oDesk team that needs to be downloaded and installed in the freelancer’s computer. That software logs in the time consumed, and captures a snapshot of the entire freelancer’s screen at regular intervals.

Get Paid

For the Philippine-based freelancers, almost all oDesk withdrawal methods are available to get the earnings here in the Philippines. I highly recommend using Payoneer and Paypal. US freelancers get to withdraw their earnings out of oDesk using ACH.

There are plenty of writing jobs that await bloggers in oDesk too! Join by clicking the logo below and if you like the service like I do, then write about it.

The Greediest People of All Time

From Bernard Madoff to AIG's bonus-earning execs, Wall Street has redefined economic excess. But the Masters of the Universe didn't invent greed. Here's a look at those despots, robber barons and others who make our shortlist of the greediest people of all time.

Bernie Madoff, 1938 - Present (Jail)
He ran what might be the biggest fraud ever, totaling as much as $50 billion. Among his victims were several charities and people he claimed as friends. He and his wife have the yachts, cars, an exclusive Upper East Side apartment and other real estate holdings to prove it.

Dennis Kozlowski, 1946 - Present (Jail)

As CEO of Tyco International, he defrauded shareholders of more than $400 million. He once spent $6,000 in company funds on a gold shower curtain, and had the company pay half the $2 million price tag on his wife's birthday party, which featured toga-clad hostesses.

Ivan Boesky, 1937 - Present

Boesky made more than $200 million as an arbitrageur and inspired Oliver Stone to create Gordon Gekko, the Greed-is-Good character from "Wall Street." But it turns out he wasn't brilliant, just using inside info to shoot fish in a barrel.

Imedla Marcos, 1929 - Present
She saw it as her duty to provide "some kind of light, a star" for the impoverished Filipino people over whom her husband presided. So she took $5 million shopping sprees to New York and Rome, reportedly owned the world's largest collections of gems and 3,000 pairs of shoes.

Charles Ponzi, 1882-1949

He had an entire scheme named after him. Enough said.

Empress Dowager Cixi, 1835-1908
She started as a concubine but became the de facto ruler of China for nearly 50 years. She all but ran her son's empire until his death. Then she had her 3-year old nephew named emperor and kept him locked up so she could continue to run the show - for a profit. Cixi used the navy's money to build herself a marble banquet boat, aboard which she ate 150-dish dinners with golden chopsticks. She had 3,000 jewelry boxes; who knows how many jewels?

William M. "Boss" Tweed, 1823-1878
One of the original fat cats, Tweed weighed in at almost 300 pounds. Tweed used his Tammany Hall political machine to separate New York taxpayers from as much as $200 million (roughly $8 billion in 2009 dollars). His avarice was regularly lampooned in political cartoons of the day like this one by Thomas Nast.

William H. Vanderbilt, 1821 - 1884
He inherited vast wealth, built it into a whole lot more and lacked any sense of noblesse oblige. Arguably the most wealthy and powerful man of his time, he controlled the world's largest railroad network and became notorious for saying: "The public be damned!... I don't take any stock in this silly nonsense about working for anybody but our own."

Pope Sixtus IV, 1471

This pope (seated) greatly enriched himsel and his top cardinals (who may have been his sons) by licensing and taxing brothels and claiming he could retroactively get the troubled souls of dead people into heaven by selling indulgences to their living relatives. Oh, and he sanctioned the Spanish Inquisition, too.

Genghis Khan, 1162-1227

He wanted to own the whole world, and came closer to accomplishing that than anybody else, before or since. After his death, his kingdom stretched from the Pacific Ocean to the Adriatic Sea.

Marcus Licinius Crassus, 115 BC - 53 BC

Crassus didn't need foreclosure proceedings to claim his real estate. This Roman general and supporter of Julius Caeser routinely increased his property holdings during "fire sales." During the city's occasional fires, he would arrive with his soldiers at a home that interested him and offer to buy the burning property for a song. Once the transaction was done, he'd put his minions to work dousing the flames. Crassus is depicted here ransacking the Temple of Jerusalem.

Gay marriages expected to begin in Iowa April 24

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gay marriage, seemingly the providence of the nation's two coasts, is just weeks away from penetrating the heartland and it appears there is nothing social conservatives can do immediately to stop it.

The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld a lower-court ruling that rejected a state law restricting marriage to a union between a man and woman. Now gays and lesbians may exchange vows as soon as April 24 following the landmark decision.

The county attorney who defended the law said he would not seek a rehearing. The only recourse for opponents appeared to be a constitutional amendment, which couldn't get on the ballot until 2012 at the earliest.

"I would say the mood is one of mourning right now in a lot of ways," said a dejected Bryan English, spokesman for the Iowa Family Policy Center, a conservative group that opposes same-sex marriage.

In the meantime, same-sex marriage opponents may try to enact residency requirements for marriage so that gays and lesbians from across the country could not travel to Iowa to wed.

U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, urged the Legislature to do so, saying he feared without residency requirements Iowa would "become the gay marriage mecca."

Only Massachusetts and Connecticut currently permit same-sex marriage. For six months last year, California's high court allowed gay marriage before voters banned it in November.

For gays and lesbians, meanwhile, the day was one of jubilation. The Vermont House of Representatives also passed a measure Friday that would allow same-sex couples to wed, on a 94-52 roll call vote, just short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a promised veto by Gov. Jim Douglas.

Gay marriage supporters hoped to convince a few Vermont legislators to switch when it comes to the override vote, which could be taken as soon as Tuesday.

In Iowa, hundreds cheered, waved rainbow flags and shed tears of joy at rallies in seven cities Friday evening. "Corn-fed and Ready to Wed!" read one man's sign at a gathering at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

In downtown Des Moines, about 300 people gathered beneath rainbow flags to celebrate including Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie.

"We finally have equality in Iowa," said Harold Delaria, of Des Moines, who attended the rally and has two gay children. "It's kind of the last wall of legalized discrimination and it's coming tumbling down."

The Rev. Diane McLanahan of Trinity United Methodist Church in Des Moines acknowledged that many people of faith won't agree with the ruling. With that in mind, she said the court has reached a decision that "pretty much insists that this will not be a debate about religious rights but a matter of equality and fairness."

In its ruling, the Supreme Court upheld an August 2007 decision by a judge who found that a state law limiting marriage to a man and a woman violates the constitutional rights of equal protection.

Iowa lawmakers have "excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification," the justices wrote.

To issue any other decision, the seven justices said, "would be an abdication of our constitutional duty."

At a news conference announcing the decision, plaintiff Kate Varnum, 34, introduced her partner, Trish Varnum, as "my fiance."

"I never thought I'd be able to say that," she said, fighting back tears.

Jason Morgan, 38, said he and his partner, Chuck Swaggerty, adopted two sons, confronted the death of Swaggerty's mother and endured a four-year legal battle as plaintiffs.

"If being together though all of that isn't love and commitment or isn't family or marriage, then I don't know what is," Morgan said. "We are very happy with the decision today and very proud to live in Iowa."

Iowa has a history of being in the forefront on social issues. It was among the first states to legalize interracial marriage and to allow married women to own property. It was also the first state to admit a woman to the bar to practice law and was a leader in school desegregation.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, a Democrat, said state lawmakers were unlikely to consider gay marriage legislation in this legislative session, which is expected to end within weeks.

Gronstal also said he's "not inclined" to propose a constitutional amendment during next year's session. Without a vote by the Legislature this year or next, the soonest gay marriage could be repealed would be 2014.

Amendments to Iowa's constitution must be passed by the House and Senate in two consecutive general assemblies, which each last two years, and then approved by a simple majority of voters during a general election.

Iowa's Democratic governor, Chet Culver, said he would review the decision before announcing his views. from googlenews

Software Escrow

Software escrow is one way of protecting you in certain types of projects when certain things go wrong.
When you contract out for software to be written for you, there are several decisions that are part of the process. One that's often overlooked is whether or not you get a copy of the source code when the project is done.

The source code is the collection of written instructions that the programmer actually writes to create a program. For many types of programs, the source code is then transformed into the "executable" that you actually run. For example "notepad.exe" is a executable program that comes with Windows. Somewhere back at Microsoft they keep the written instructions, or source code, that the programmers used to create it.

Open source software projects make the source code publicly accessible. Anyone with enough knowledge can create the software executable using the source code. Closed source, or "proprietary" software is just the opposite ... the source code is not available publicly, only the executable. Companies use this approach to retain their intellectual property, and trade secrets.

When you contract with someone to write software for you one decision, implied or explicit, is whether the source code belongs exclusively to the developer, or whether you get a copy. If you do, you have the safety of being able to have someone else make changes or fix bugs in the future, but the developer is giving up some of his or her potential control of that software. If the developer retains the source code and you don't have access to it, then you are dependant on the developer for all future updates. Typically developers will charge more if you get the source code.

It's common to opt for the cheaper option, or to have the developer simply not give you the option.

So what happens if your developer goes out of business? What if all of the source code simply disappears?

That's where software or source code escrow comes into play.

As part of arranging for your software to be written, you and the developer can agree that a copy of the source code will be given to a neutral third party - an escrow agent. The agreement would then specify under which conditions that agent would be allowed to release the source code to you. For example one of the conditions might be the developer's bankruptcy or going out of business for other reasons. By using software escrow, the developer is protected as long as it makes sense for them to retain control, and you are protected should the developer disappear.

College Loan Consolidation

This loan is one that is very much a reality for many parents who are looking to help their kids out with college but don’t have a large sum of money just laying around. The problem occurs when you have to pay for a couple of different kids to go to college and you have to keep up with different loans. What are you to do with all of that paperwork? In this case, it is sometimes good to consider loan consolidation. With consolidation, you can bundle all of those aggravating loans into one, easy to remember loan.

Why would one consider using college loan consolidation to pay off their students’ college loan? For example, you might have three kids going through college and each of them attends a private school. That tuition bill could potentially add up to being a huge burden on your family. The standard rate of repayment for these loans is ten years, which might not be enough time for you to get it done. In this case, consolidation offers the options of extending your loan term beyond ten years and into the thirty year period. This way, the payments are lowered and they become much more reasonable for a person with multiple children.

There are other advantages to going ahead and making the move to consolidation for your parents loan. You will be able to take advantage of a substantially lower payment each month, but that isn’t even the best part. When you make the move, you will be able to get a lower interest rate almost instantly. This will enable your family to take advantage of savings quickly and apply that money to other needs. It’s difficult raising a family, so there are always needs for money. If you need to make some instant savings, then this is one way to do it.

In addition to that, you will be eliminating the multiple lender scenario. People who know anything about credit understand that having numerous different loans can be damaging to a person’s credit. Why not combine all of those into one, easy to manage loan so that you can keep up with it and keep your credit score high? This instant boost to your credit score will help you with interest rates on cars and your house, should you choose a second mortgage.

Car Insurance Quote

My sister wants to renew her car insurance but she didnt know where she wants to renew it. My mother told her that be wise in getting a car insurance.

Car insurance protects your vehicle against damages incurred during an accident or losses due to theft. Practically speaking, even if you are not that fervent about cars, insuring your car is necessary. Think about the thousands of dollars you spent in buying the vehicle. If all those would be turned into nothing when a damaging car accident happens, you will be on the losing end. While cars are others’ biggest source of pride, they can be the worst source of enormous expenditures. Moreover, most states require that you should carry at least a minimum car insurance if you are driving a vehicle.

Just as in buying a vehicle, you need to exert time and effort in deciding which car insurance policy to purchase. There are different kinds of car insurance policies as there are different kinds of autos. No two car insurance policies are alike and that is because there are so many insurance providers everywhere so you have to be very selective so you would not end up complaining in the end like how you complained about an old car that didn’t give you the satisfaction you wanted.

The first step in selecting the right car insurance provider is by looking for car insurance quotes. A car insurance quote is an estimated overall cost of the policy. It likewise refers to the offer made by the car insurance provider, which includes the terms and conditions for which the insurance contract will be provided aside from costs of the policy.

Although car insurance quotes should not be your most decisive factor in buying a car insurance, it helps a lot in getting the most affordable deals available. After comparing car insurance quotes though, you have to consider other factors as well before you ultimately choose a particular car insurance provider. Other factors to look into are the coverages, the terms and conditions in the policy, especially when you need to move to another location, purchase a new vehicle and the like.

Where should you get car insurance quotes? It’s simple nowadays because you can conveniently search for them online. There are websites that provide free services and give you quotes instantly so comparing is much easier. There are also some websites that provide a list of auto insurance providers and their websites. Look for those sites online and check their insurance quotes and coverages. There are some insurance policy providers who give car insurance quotes from their competitors as well so you can instantly see their advantages over other insurance providers.

As you search for car insurance quotes, also look for discounts. A lot of car insurance companies provide discounts if you get more than one policy. Compare their discount offerings too, their qualifications and other requirements in order for you to be eligible of the discounts. Some companies give discounts to members of certain organizations and for their long-time policyholders.

Car Accident Lawyer

Tomorrow me and my mother will go to Chevrolet Makati to get the insurance and registered papers of our new car. We must have that because of the LTO and of course for our safety. Because lots of car accidents on the road now a days.

Car accidents are usually considered to be personal injury cases in court. The driver can put up a case against the car manufacturer or against the guilty party for an injury settlement. An experienced car accident lawyer can look into the details of the lawsuit to ensure proper justice is carried out.

Car accident lawyers are specialized in this field and are experts in dealing with such cases. They are licensed to deal with these cases specifically and so can be of immense help in such situations. Most of them have a good grasp of the litigations involved in such cases and can deal with personal injury and property damage involved in an accident.

Car accident lawyers can help deal with the details of the accident such as witnesses, details of the guilty party, filing a police report, and other information that might be useful while filing a lawsuit.

Most car owners are covered by insurance these days. Although the insurance covers for the damage caused, including personal injury as well as the property damage, this can be settled in the court itself with the other party. The insurance of the guilty party mostly covers all the expenses of the injured party but in the event it does not, the case should go to court. A car accident lawyer can be invaluable in such cases where the negotiations would be required to ensure that the injured party gets all the necessary reimbursement for the trauma faced. A car accident lawyer will keep in mind all the injured party's legal rights and go through various options before arriving at the best solution.

Car accident lawyers can assist the injured party to get compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation expenses, disability claims, minor fractures and sufferings, as well as the loss of income due to the accident. Many other small details would also be taken care of over by a car accident lawyer.

Since these lawyers are specialized in this fieldComputer Technology Articles, their expertise could be of immense help when involved in a car accident. They help smooth over the whole process for a nominal fee and can boost the morale just by being present to take over the matters on hand.
