Ted Failon's wife 'fighting for her life'

The wife of ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon is in critical condition after being shot in the head.

A police report quoted Failon as saying his wife, Trinidad, was shot in their home in Tierra Pura while Failon was in ABS-CBN.

Authorities are now trying to determine whether the shooting was an attempted homicide or a suicide attempt.

As of posting, Failon and the persons who were inside the house at the time of the incident had already taken a paraffin test.

A reenactment of the incidents inside the Failon residence was also done for the police.

In a statement, Failon said he didn't finish his program on dzMM this morning after he talked to his wife on the telephone.

Failon said he immediately went home and found the door to their bathroom locked.

When they finally opened the door, he found his wife bloodied and then rushed her to the hospital.

"Hindi ko na tinapos ang aking programa sa dzMM kaninang umaga matapos kong makausap ang aking asawa sa telepono. Kaya umuwi ako kaagad at natagpuan kong nakakandado ang pinto ng banyo,” he said. “Pinabuksan ko ang pinto at natagpuan ko ang aking asawa na duguan kung kaya't itinakbo ko siya kaagad sa ospital."

Police Superintendent Frank Mabanag, chief of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said the couple had an argument Tuesday night after which Trinidad left the house with a sibling and returned only on Wednesday when Failon was at ABS-CBN.

Mabanag said Trinidad apparently left a suicide note which is now in the possession of the police.

The alleged suicide note said:

"Papa, Im so so sorry gustong gusto ko pong magsabi sa yo ng totoo, pero hindi ko po alam kung papaano ko uumpisahan.

"Sobrang takot na takot po ako. Umalis po muna ako. Kasi hindi ko po kayang at nahihiya po ako sayo humarap.

"Sana po mapawad mo ako papa. Sorry, sorry Papa

Mama"

Mabanag lamented that the household helpers of Failon cleaned the bathroom where Trinidad was found and that Failon returned the gun to the bedroom instead of leaving the scene for the police to examine.

These should not have been done, Mabanag said.

Initial reports said the couple had an argument in Failon's car on Wednesday, but this was denied by Mabanag.

As of posting, the hospital refused to give details on the condition of the broadcaster’s wife.

Dr. Salvador Corpuz, New Era Medical Director, said that Failon gave strict orders not to divulge any information about the incident.

In a statement, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. appealed to the public to respect the privacy of Failon’s family.

"We appeal to everyone to please respect the privacy of Ted Failon and his family," ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio said. "His wife is fighting for her life."

Mabanag said they are now checking every angle that might have led to the incident.

Get Paid by Hour in oDesk

The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk
What is oDesk?

oDesk is a freelance site where your services can get paid by the hour or by fixed-price bids. A client (termed as buyer) get to post their job so that they can get a freelancer (termed as provider) to do that particular job. These are small contracted work where the client can handpick his freelancers or he can wait for active freelancers to apply to his job. oDesk offers jobs from data entry to writing as well as their initial job offerings in programming, graphics and web design jobs.

Create a Profile

To begin with, one has to create a profile. That profile is a lot similar to a resume. A portfolio is also very helpful in proving one’s capability to finish a job. It took me a day to update my profile but once that it is done; I was appealing enough for some interested clients. I wrote some tips for the oDesk blog to help several oDesk freelancers on polishing their profiles to make their edge for the first job.

Measuring One’s Skills

Don’t forget the tests too! oDesk offers free tests that measure the skills capabilities. Programmers can get tests related to the programming skills; writers can also get tests that are related to writing. These tests are important, especially to those who do not have any oDesk work history and feedback to back up their profile. The oDesk Readiness Test (ORT) is a new test about the oDesk policies and procedures to make sure that freelancers are ready to apply and accept jobs in the marketplace (I have not encountered this test in the first place).

How Job Progress is Monitored

Hourly jobs are monitored using special software called oDesk team that needs to be downloaded and installed in the freelancer’s computer. That software logs in the time consumed, and captures a snapshot of the entire freelancer’s screen at regular intervals.

Get Paid

For the Philippine-based freelancers, almost all oDesk withdrawal methods are available to get the earnings here in the Philippines. I highly recommend using Payoneer and Paypal. US freelancers get to withdraw their earnings out of oDesk using ACH.

There are plenty of writing jobs that await bloggers in oDesk too! Join by clicking the logo below and if you like the service like I do, then write about it.

The Greediest People of All Time

From Bernard Madoff to AIG's bonus-earning execs, Wall Street has redefined economic excess. But the Masters of the Universe didn't invent greed. Here's a look at those despots, robber barons and others who make our shortlist of the greediest people of all time.

Bernie Madoff, 1938 - Present (Jail)
He ran what might be the biggest fraud ever, totaling as much as $50 billion. Among his victims were several charities and people he claimed as friends. He and his wife have the yachts, cars, an exclusive Upper East Side apartment and other real estate holdings to prove it.

Dennis Kozlowski, 1946 - Present (Jail)

As CEO of Tyco International, he defrauded shareholders of more than $400 million. He once spent $6,000 in company funds on a gold shower curtain, and had the company pay half the $2 million price tag on his wife's birthday party, which featured toga-clad hostesses.

Ivan Boesky, 1937 - Present

Boesky made more than $200 million as an arbitrageur and inspired Oliver Stone to create Gordon Gekko, the Greed-is-Good character from "Wall Street." But it turns out he wasn't brilliant, just using inside info to shoot fish in a barrel.

Imedla Marcos, 1929 - Present
She saw it as her duty to provide "some kind of light, a star" for the impoverished Filipino people over whom her husband presided. So she took $5 million shopping sprees to New York and Rome, reportedly owned the world's largest collections of gems and 3,000 pairs of shoes.

Charles Ponzi, 1882-1949

He had an entire scheme named after him. Enough said.

Empress Dowager Cixi, 1835-1908
She started as a concubine but became the de facto ruler of China for nearly 50 years. She all but ran her son's empire until his death. Then she had her 3-year old nephew named emperor and kept him locked up so she could continue to run the show - for a profit. Cixi used the navy's money to build herself a marble banquet boat, aboard which she ate 150-dish dinners with golden chopsticks. She had 3,000 jewelry boxes; who knows how many jewels?

William M. "Boss" Tweed, 1823-1878
One of the original fat cats, Tweed weighed in at almost 300 pounds. Tweed used his Tammany Hall political machine to separate New York taxpayers from as much as $200 million (roughly $8 billion in 2009 dollars). His avarice was regularly lampooned in political cartoons of the day like this one by Thomas Nast.

William H. Vanderbilt, 1821 - 1884
He inherited vast wealth, built it into a whole lot more and lacked any sense of noblesse oblige. Arguably the most wealthy and powerful man of his time, he controlled the world's largest railroad network and became notorious for saying: "The public be damned!... I don't take any stock in this silly nonsense about working for anybody but our own."

Pope Sixtus IV, 1471

This pope (seated) greatly enriched himsel and his top cardinals (who may have been his sons) by licensing and taxing brothels and claiming he could retroactively get the troubled souls of dead people into heaven by selling indulgences to their living relatives. Oh, and he sanctioned the Spanish Inquisition, too.

Genghis Khan, 1162-1227

He wanted to own the whole world, and came closer to accomplishing that than anybody else, before or since. After his death, his kingdom stretched from the Pacific Ocean to the Adriatic Sea.

Marcus Licinius Crassus, 115 BC - 53 BC

Crassus didn't need foreclosure proceedings to claim his real estate. This Roman general and supporter of Julius Caeser routinely increased his property holdings during "fire sales." During the city's occasional fires, he would arrive with his soldiers at a home that interested him and offer to buy the burning property for a song. Once the transaction was done, he'd put his minions to work dousing the flames. Crassus is depicted here ransacking the Temple of Jerusalem.

Paris Hilton Gushes On Doug Reinhardt: 'He's Going To Be My Husband'

Has Paris Hilton found her future fiance?

"He's going to be my husband," she giggled to E! Online at the I Heart Ronson for JCPenney party in LA.

And though she and the baseball player and former "The Hills" star have seemingly had a whirlwind romance, the celebutante said that Doug's been part of her life for quite some time.

"We're best friends," Paris said. "It's not like we just met. We've known each other over the past year. I was in a relationship before and we reconnected. I'm really in love and really happy."
But according to Doug, the couple doesn't have wedding bells in mind just yet.

"You never know," Doug said.

Until then, he's got a place on the set of the second season of Paris' "My New BFF," where she said he comes up with "funny ideas."
"It's good having my boyfriend on set and watching," she said, adding that things didn't work out with Season One winner Brittany Flickinger. "I want a best friend who wants to be friends with me because I'm a good person and a good friend, not for any other reason. I've been fooled by so many girls."

Gay marriages expected to begin in Iowa April 24

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gay marriage, seemingly the providence of the nation's two coasts, is just weeks away from penetrating the heartland and it appears there is nothing social conservatives can do immediately to stop it.

The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld a lower-court ruling that rejected a state law restricting marriage to a union between a man and woman. Now gays and lesbians may exchange vows as soon as April 24 following the landmark decision.

The county attorney who defended the law said he would not seek a rehearing. The only recourse for opponents appeared to be a constitutional amendment, which couldn't get on the ballot until 2012 at the earliest.

"I would say the mood is one of mourning right now in a lot of ways," said a dejected Bryan English, spokesman for the Iowa Family Policy Center, a conservative group that opposes same-sex marriage.

In the meantime, same-sex marriage opponents may try to enact residency requirements for marriage so that gays and lesbians from across the country could not travel to Iowa to wed.

U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, urged the Legislature to do so, saying he feared without residency requirements Iowa would "become the gay marriage mecca."

Only Massachusetts and Connecticut currently permit same-sex marriage. For six months last year, California's high court allowed gay marriage before voters banned it in November.

For gays and lesbians, meanwhile, the day was one of jubilation. The Vermont House of Representatives also passed a measure Friday that would allow same-sex couples to wed, on a 94-52 roll call vote, just short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a promised veto by Gov. Jim Douglas.

Gay marriage supporters hoped to convince a few Vermont legislators to switch when it comes to the override vote, which could be taken as soon as Tuesday.

In Iowa, hundreds cheered, waved rainbow flags and shed tears of joy at rallies in seven cities Friday evening. "Corn-fed and Ready to Wed!" read one man's sign at a gathering at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

In downtown Des Moines, about 300 people gathered beneath rainbow flags to celebrate including Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie.

"We finally have equality in Iowa," said Harold Delaria, of Des Moines, who attended the rally and has two gay children. "It's kind of the last wall of legalized discrimination and it's coming tumbling down."

The Rev. Diane McLanahan of Trinity United Methodist Church in Des Moines acknowledged that many people of faith won't agree with the ruling. With that in mind, she said the court has reached a decision that "pretty much insists that this will not be a debate about religious rights but a matter of equality and fairness."

In its ruling, the Supreme Court upheld an August 2007 decision by a judge who found that a state law limiting marriage to a man and a woman violates the constitutional rights of equal protection.

Iowa lawmakers have "excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification," the justices wrote.

To issue any other decision, the seven justices said, "would be an abdication of our constitutional duty."

At a news conference announcing the decision, plaintiff Kate Varnum, 34, introduced her partner, Trish Varnum, as "my fiance."

"I never thought I'd be able to say that," she said, fighting back tears.

Jason Morgan, 38, said he and his partner, Chuck Swaggerty, adopted two sons, confronted the death of Swaggerty's mother and endured a four-year legal battle as plaintiffs.

"If being together though all of that isn't love and commitment or isn't family or marriage, then I don't know what is," Morgan said. "We are very happy with the decision today and very proud to live in Iowa."

Iowa has a history of being in the forefront on social issues. It was among the first states to legalize interracial marriage and to allow married women to own property. It was also the first state to admit a woman to the bar to practice law and was a leader in school desegregation.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, a Democrat, said state lawmakers were unlikely to consider gay marriage legislation in this legislative session, which is expected to end within weeks.

Gronstal also said he's "not inclined" to propose a constitutional amendment during next year's session. Without a vote by the Legislature this year or next, the soonest gay marriage could be repealed would be 2014.

Amendments to Iowa's constitution must be passed by the House and Senate in two consecutive general assemblies, which each last two years, and then approved by a simple majority of voters during a general election.

Iowa's Democratic governor, Chet Culver, said he would review the decision before announcing his views. from googlenews

Conficker Worm

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm targeting the Microsoft Windows operating system that was first detected in October 2008. An early variant of the worm propagated through the Internet by exploiting a vulnerability in the network stack of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 Beta, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta that was discovered earlier that month. The worm has been unusually difficult for network operators and law enforcement to counter because of its combined use of advanced malware techniques.

Although the origin of the name "conficker" is not known with certainty, Internet specialists and others have speculated that it is a German portmanteau fusing the term "configure" with "ficken", the German word for "to fuck". Microsoft analyst Joshua Phillips describes "conficker" as a rearrangement of portions of the domain name "trafficconverter.biz".

Lindsay Still With Sam: "We Aren't Broken Up"

Lindsay Lohan is still very much part of a twosome.

When asked whether there's any truth to the breakup rumors dogging her and Samantha Ronson these days (pick a day, any day), the 22-year-old actress answered unequivocally.

"Those rumors aren't true. We aren't broken up," Lohan told E! News Wednesday, speaking from a penthouse suite at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, where she was doing promotional work for her new spray-on self-tanner, Sevin Nyne.

Hanging out with Lohan at the hotel were sister Ali and mom Dina, who flew in from New York earlier this week to spend time with her.

Fellow star Natalie Portman also swung by to check out LiLo's chemical-free tanning mist—but Ronson was nowhere to be seen. So what really gives?

"They've been spending time with their families and working," a source told E! News. "It's normal and healthy to do that. That doesn't mean they broke up!"

We're told that Ronson, who was in Florida for a gig Tuesday, is back in L.A. and spending time today with her fashion designer sister, Charlotte, who's in town for work.

Despite going through what seemed to be a series of spats, Lohan told E! last week that she wishes people would quit fixating on her and Ronson's relationship.

"They need to stop saying we're fighting," she said. "People telling lies about me to her and all this garbage. I'm really a good person and I have a good heart and just want to work. The only reason I go to clubs is to hear Samantha spin or be normal. from eonline.com

Does Sex and the City Sequel Have "Big" Problems?

The second Sex and the City movie may not be as big as the first.

We're sure the box office will be just as major, but I'm told there's been a delay in getting Mr. Big to agree to return.

While no start date to shoot the movie has been decided, one source tells me that Chris Noth has yet to sign on because of "scheduling problems."

However, another source says…

Timing may not be the issue. Quite simply, Noth and New Line Cinema are still in talks.

As I first reported in February, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis are set to reprise their roles, along with writer-director Michael Patrick King.

New Line announced earlier this week that SATC II will hit theaters May 28, 2010.

But there's going to be some inventive storytelling happening if Mr. Big isn't around for the sophomore effort. The last we saw, Carrie married Mr. Big even after he first left her at the altar

Chris Brown Smacked Down in New Diss Track

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Chris Brown is due to face the music in court on Monday—or he can just turn on his radio today.

Smoke Jumpers, a little-known hip-hop act, is attempting to raise its profile with some Brown bashing, taking the disgraced R&B singer to task in a new track that includes the lyric: "Chris Brown should get his ass kicked."

Called "My Flow So Tight," the electronic-flavored ditty is touted on the group's website as "the official Chris Brown dis record" and claims the entertainer has no future in the music biz because of the Rihanna incident:

"Boy hits girl/Boy should be taken down/No matter who's around...All the money in the world but that's no excuse/Career suicide, yo, here's the noose."

The track has been in heavy rotation on urban radio stations in markets like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Pittsburgh and Tampa.

Smoke Jumpers promise that a portion of the proceeds from the single will go to various organizations for battered women.

A rep for Brown was unavailable for comment. The 19-year-old singer is due in an L.A. courtroom Monday afternoon to be arraigned on two felony counts stemming from the pre-Grammys altercation.
